Depression ======> Happiness

Since I've started this blog, I've always wanted to tackle this subject, what makes a person happy?

Last night, I had found out that one of my good friends had pretty much betrayed my trust that I had in him, and that in itself brought my spirits down instantly. I prayed to God right away for help, I went through the Bible and found this about happiness:

Psalm 28:7 : "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song."

I put my trust in God and went to sleep, hoping that I would wake up in a better mood. When I did wake up, I was slightly happier, but not 100%. And then around noon, Bobby picked me up to go to Curren's house...So my point is, today some of the guys and I played a friendly game of high stakes starburst poker at Curren's house, and when I was with all the guys: Matty, D-money, Chewy, Curren, Josh, and Bobby, I instantly felt better about myself. I was filled with joy not because of the poker, or because I had a little stack of someone elses candy in front of me, but because I was spending time with my brothers in Christ. Being with God and God's people is where happiness really comes from.

1 Peter 1:8 "Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy..."

I've looked back at all the times that I have ever felt downcast, and whenever I put my trust in God, whether it be in prayer, spending time with my Christian brothers or sisters, or spending time in deep worship, I always come out in a way better mood then the times I tried to deal with it on my own.

John 15:11 says: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." :

God wants us to be happy, He does not wish any of us to be downcast. So I realized the answer to bringing up our spirits in time of sadness is easy, the answer is God. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem as I do, but I hope this helped someone out there. Happiness is the easiest thing to find, if you know where to look :]

I'll end tonights blog with my favorite verse on happiness:

Psalm 84:4-5: "How happy are those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. How happy are those who are strong in the Lord…."

Nicee Joel! By the way I don't think you should call yourself saint Joel anymore, because it's defined as a holy person, and sorry but your far from holy so...
Good stuff though; people try to please themselves with material possesions things that with fade into nothing but when you said the way to become happy is God; you where 100 percent correct because he equals eternal happiness unlike anything else in this world. Amen brother Joel (not saint)

Yo Joel, I really appreciated this blog! It is a great encouragement to dwell together in unity as Christian brothers (Psalm 133:1). I'm glad that was an encouragement to you on Monday.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with my brother D-money. The Bible uses saint to refer to Christians on many occasions. We are holy in God's sight because of the blood of Christ and we can be holy as God is holy because we are commanded to be so. (Yes we are sinners but we have been saved by grace and can therefore do good works in Christ). For example, see today's psalm where in the last verse David says that he wants to praise God in the presence of the "saints" or God's people (Psalm 52:9). So in this sense Joel is completely a saint, just as saved as any other Christian and is free to use that name for himself.

However, I do agree with my brother D-money that the word "saint" has unfortunately been tainted by other religions who use this word to refer to people who are supposedly super spiritual, as in they had no sin. This is probably what most people think of when they hear the word. Because of this Joel may want to change his name. I think that either way there is a good reason to support it.

hey joel when i was reading through this i kept remembering a verse that is in James 1:2.... "dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an oppurtunity for great joy." i love that verse and always think of it when i feel down about something. oh and by the way this is my favorites out of all three of your blogs.
